How to preview your Instagram post
- Add your photo. Pick it, drop it or paste it. Add more to make a carousel.
- Write your caption. See where Instagram cuts it with “…more”, as you type.
- Check it in the feed. In the app’s phone, light or dark, with your name and photo.
- See every picture’s size. The checks tell you if a picture is too wide, too tall or too small.
- Download a screenshot of the preview to share it before you post.
Instagram post sizes
| Shape | Size | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Portrait 3:4 | 1080 × 1440 | Matches the profile grid |
| Portrait 4:5 | 1080 × 1350 | Takes the most space in the feed of the classic sizes |
| Square 1:1 | 1080 × 1080 | The classic |
| Landscape | 1080 × 566 (1.91:1) | Small in the feed |
Where your caption is cut
The feed shows your username and about two lines of the caption, then “…more”. The first line is your hook: make it worth tapping. Captions can be up to 2,200 characters.
How the profile grid crops your post
Instagram’s profile grid shows every post as a 3:4 rectangle. A 4:5 or square photo loses a little at the sides or top and bottom there. Keep faces and text in the middle, or post in 3:4.
Instagram’s own drafts, scheduling and trial reels help too. All four checks, in order, are in how to preview an Instagram post before posting.
Free, and what the app adds
The Instagram post preview is free, with no account. aiCarousels writes and designs Instagram carousels and image posts at the right size, and shows you the post before you share it.
