How to post a carousel on X (Twitter)

X has no carousel format. Its carousel is a post with up to four pictures, and a longer one goes out as a thread. Here is how to post one from the app or the web, the size that shows without bad crops, and how to make slides that get read.

How to post a carousel on X from a computer

  1. Go to x.com and sign in.
  2. Click the box at the top of your feed (“What’s happening?”).
  3. Click the photo icon and choose up to four slides from your computer.
  4. Write your text and click Post.

How to post a longer carousel on X

Four pictures is the limit for one post. For eight or twelve slides, post them as a thread: the first four with your hook, then reply to your own post with the next four, and so on. Number the slides so people can follow along, and end the last post with what you want them to do.

Usually it’s better to cut. Four strong slides beat twelve on X, where people scroll fast. aiCarousels writes up to 4 slides when you pick X, so the carousel fits one post.

How to make the slides for an X carousel

On X the text is short, so the slides do the work. aiCarousels writes and designs them from one line, sized for X, with the post text written to fit 280 characters.

  1. Type your idea and choose X On Home, write what the carousel is about and set where you’ll post it to X. Pick a writer, or leave it on Auto: Felix is the one made for X and Threads, short and sharp.
  2. Check the slides and the text Change any word by clicking it. Switch to Caption for the post text written from your slides, with a counter for X’s 280 characters.
  3. Download and post Click Download PNGs for a picture of every slide, numbered in order, then post them as above.

Tips for an X carousel people open

  1. Make the cover readable in the grid. In the feed each picture is small and cropped. Big words, near the middle.
  2. One point per slide. Four slides, four points, nothing else.
  3. Put the hook in the text, not only on the slide. The first line is what people read before they tap.
  4. Use the same slides elsewhere. 4:5 slides also post on LinkedIn, Instagram and Threads. See carousel sizes for every platform.
  5. Bold one word. X has no bold button, but the free X text formatter does it.

Frequently asked questions

Can you post a carousel on X (Twitter)?

Yes, as a post with up to four pictures. X has no separate carousel format: people see the pictures in a grid and swipe through them full screen.

How many pictures can an X post have?

Up to four photos, GIFs or videos, in any mix. For more, post the rest as a thread.

What size should X carousel slides be?

4:5 (1080 × 1350) or square (1080 × 1080). Keep the words near the middle, since X crops pictures in the grid.

Can I post the same carousel on X and Instagram?

Yes, if you keep it to four slides for X. Both take 4:5 and square pictures.
