Slides cut off, text gone soft, a carousel that stops at 10 or posts in the wrong order. Each of these has a cause you can find, and most are fixed before you tap Share. Here is each problem, why it happens and what to do.

The cause: Instagram uses the shape of your first selection for the whole carousel, and fits every other slide to it. A square cover followed by tall slides means the tall ones lose their top and bottom. A tall cover followed by a landscape photo loses that photo’s sides.
The fix:
Make every slide the same size before you upload. 1080 × 1350 (4:5) or 1080 × 1440 (3:4) for portrait. Instagram has accepted 3:4 photos in carousels since May 2025.
Put the shape you want first. If your cover is the odd one out, the whole carousel follows it.
Mixing shapes on purpose? Some accounts get a Mixed option: after selecting your photos, tap the resize icon in the lower-left of the preview. Technobezz notes it isn’t available on every account or in every region, and must be chosen before you share.
Already posted? The fix is to delete the post, resize the slides and share it again.
The free Instagram size checker shows which of your slides will be cropped and resizes them all to one shape, on your device.
Why is my Instagram carousel blurry?
Soft slides almost always come from one of four things:
Slides narrower than 1080 px. Instagram shows photos up to 1,080 px wide, so a 600 px slide is stretched to fill the space. Export at 1080 px wide or more. Larger is fine: Instagram scales it down.
A crop. When Instagram crops a slide to match the first one, it zooms in, and zooming costs sharpness. Fix the sizes first (above).
Data saving. Instagram has a setting that uploads at lower quality to save mobile data. In the app, open the menu on your profile, find Media quality and turn on Upload at highest quality.
Text that’s too small or saved as a low-quality JPEG. Small text blurs first. Save slides that are mostly text as PNG, or as JPEG at high quality, and keep the text big enough for a phone: see carousel fonts and text size.
Judge the real post, not the upload screen: open the shared post on your phone and zoom in on a slide.
Why can I only post 10 photos in my Instagram carousel?
An Instagram carousel holds up to 20 photos or videos when you post it in the Instagram app or on instagram.com. If you are stuck at 10, the post is almost always going through another app, such as a scheduler or a design tool that posts for you. Those apps go through Instagram’s API, which has its own, tighter rules.

The fix: to post more than 10 slides, or a 3:4 carousel, post it yourself in the Instagram app. If you must use a scheduler, keep it to 10 slides at 4:5, saved as JPEG. The full posting steps are in how to make a carousel on Instagram.
Why won’t my carousel upload to Instagram?
It’s a PDF. Instagram posts photos and videos, not documents. A LinkedIn carousel saved as a PDF has to become one picture per page first. The free Instagram size checker takes a PDF and gives back every page as a picture at 3:4, 4:5 or 1:1.
More than 20 items. The app stops at 20. Split a longer carousel in two.
Too many hashtags. Instagram is gradually cutting the hashtags allowed in a post’s caption to five. If a caption with more won’t go through, keep your five best.
A scheduler’s limits. Over 10 items, a PNG or a file over 8 MB can be refused or converted on the way (see the table above).
Nothing above? Update the Instagram app, then try again on a steady connection.
Why are my carousel slides in the wrong order?
The cause: Instagram puts slides in the order you tap them. A small number appears on each one as you select it, and that number is its place in the carousel. Your gallery’s order doesn’t count.
The fix:
Name or number your slides (01, 02, 03) so you can see the order before you start.
Tap them one by one, cover first, and check the little numbers before you tap Next.
Swipe through once more on the edit screen. Once the post is shared, the reliable fix for a wrong order is to delete it and share it again.
Slides downloaded from aiCarousels come numbered (yourtitle-01.png, yourtitle-02.png…) so they stay in order.
Why does my carousel show a different first slide?
Two things can make your cover look like it changed:
Instagram showed it again from slide 2. If someone scrolls past a carousel without engaging, Instagram may show it to them again later, this time starting at the second slide. Planoly reports this from Adam Mosseri’s explanation of why carousels get more reach. Nothing is broken. Make slide 2 work as a second hook, not a “here’s what you’ll learn” page.
Your profile grid trims the cover. The grid shows posts as 3:4 tiles. A 3:4 cover shows whole. A 4:5 cover loses a little at its sides, and a square one more. The full slide is still there when someone opens the post. To see your next cover next to the posts already on your profile, use the Instagram feed planner.
Why can’t I add music to my Instagram carousel?
There’s a video in it. Instagram’s help page on carousel music says music can’t be added to carousels with videos. Social Media Today reported in June 2024 that Instagram had started allowing it, so it may depend on your app version. Update the app; if the option is still missing, try the carousel with photos only.
Music isn’t available where you are. Instagram says its music features aren’t available in every country yet.
How do I delete one photo from an Instagram carousel?
Open the post and tap the three dots They sit at the top right of the post. Tap Edit.
Go to the slide and tap the bin Swipe to the photo you want to remove and tap the bin icon at its top left, then Delete.
Tap Done Easy to miss: without Done at the top right, nothing is saved.
It works only if two or more photos are left afterwards, so a carousel of two can’t lose one. Changed your mind? The photo waits in Your activity › Recently deleted for 30 days. Since January 2026 some people find no bin icon on the edit screen at all; Instagram hasn’t said whether it’s a bug or a test. Update the app, or delete the post and share it again without that photo.

How to stop these problems before you post
Most of the problems above start before Instagram is even open. If you make your carousel in aiCarousels, it’s built in one shape from the start:
01
Choose Instagram and one size
In Where will you post it?, pick Instagram and a size: 3:4 (recommended), 4:5, 1:1, or 9:16 for Stories. Every slide is made in that shape, and changing it re-flows all of them at once.

3:4 Tall (recommended): a tall post. Up to 20 slides.
02
Check it in Preview
Press Preview and open the Instagram tab to see the post as it will look, caption included. The Ready to post on Instagram? list checks the slide count, the size and the cover. It’s part of ready to post.

Frequently asked questions
Why did my Instagram carousel only post 10 slides?
It was posted by another app, such as a scheduler, through Instagram’s API, which allows 10 items per carousel. Posted in the Instagram app or on instagram.com, a carousel can hold up to 20.
Why are my Instagram carousel photos cropped?
Instagram fits every slide to the shape of the first one. Make every slide the same size, and put the shape you want first.
How do I fix a carousel that already posted cropped?
Delete the post, resize every slide to the same shape, put the shape you want first and share it again.
Can I get back a photo I deleted from a carousel?
Yes, for 30 days. Open Your activity, then Recently deleted, and restore it.
Why can’t I add music to my Instagram carousel?
Instagram’s help says music can’t be added to carousels that include a video, and music isn’t available in every country. Update the app, and try with photos only.
Why does my carousel start on the second slide for some people?
Instagram can show a carousel again to people who scrolled past it, starting at the second slide. Make slide two work as a hook on its own.
