Why Add Skills to Your LinkedIn Profile?
Adding skills to your LinkedIn profile helps showcase your expertise, improve your visibility in search results, and strengthen your credibility. There are two main sections where you can add skills:
- The About section
- The Experience section
Step 1: Adding Skills to the About Section
Follow these steps to add skills to your About section:
- Open Your LinkedIn Profile
- Edit the About Section
- Add Up to Five Skills
- Save Changes
Click on ‘Me’ in the top-right corner and select ‘View Profile.’
Click the pencil icon in the About section.
Use the skill field to enter up to five relevant skills. You can also reorder them as needed.
Click ‘Save’ to update your profile.
Step 2: Adding Skills to the Experience Section
To add skills under specific job roles, follow these steps:
- Edit an Experience Entry
- Add Skills
- Limit to Two Skills for Better Visibility
- Save Changes
Scroll down to the Experience section, click the pencil icon, and select the position you want to edit.
Scroll to the bottom of the edit screen and enter up to five skills related to the role.
Only two skills are displayed by default. Additional skills require users to click to view more, which many may not do.
Click ‘Save’ to update your experience section.
